I am having trouble getting a previously created USB3
hard drive to be recognized by FreeNAS. Any help in
troubleshooting would be much appreciated.
Background info follows:
I am running FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825).
ASUS P8Z68 - 16GB DDR3 - ST3000DM001 HD RAID-Z2
I successfully made an rsync backup for my volumes on
a USB3 harddrive (ST2000DM001 in a USB3 enclosure) by
plugging the drive in and then using the volume manager
in the GUI I used the following options
Volume name EXTUSB1
Volume to extend -----
Member disks da1
Filesystem type UFS
This successfully mounted the volume at /mnt/EXTUSB1,
and I was able to backup my data.
I then used the 'Detach Volume' tab in the volumes display
to detach the volume (without checking the "Mark the disks
as new (destroy data)" option).
I subsequently decided to add a second USB thumb drive for
storing scripts using the same procedure as above.
That second thumb drive is USB2 and plugged into a USB2 port.
It shows up on the system with geom label as:
Today I went to plug in my external USB3 drive and it wasn't
recognized.
I have two USB3 ports on the box, and I have tried plugging the drive into
both of them. When I plug the drive in, it spins up, and there is a bit of
noise due to head activity as would be expected when a USB drive is
registered by the system. However there is no sign of the drive and I get
no messages when the drive is plugged in or unplugged from the USB port.
Below is a complete listing of dmesg. I don't see anything, but I have included
just in case there is something that I am missing, and to provide insight into
system configuration.
