New NAS user here

Systhem:
Asus P5P43TD PRO
8GB Ram,
Core 2 Quad Q9400

5 HDDs in my NAS. (some SSDs)
3x 6TB wd red pro
2x 2TB old wd red

If I do a smart test with all my drives at once the case starts vibrating noticeably. (so i'm somewhat concerned)

I screwed the HDDs rock solid into my case on one side and onto a 3d printed stand out part on the other side. (because Mounting holes are about 145cm apart in my case. I think 5,25” bays?)

- I am wondering if HDDs should be mounted onto decoupling HDD mounting brackets so one drives vibration doesn’t effect the others?

- Also should HDDs for a NAS be mounted vertically or horizontally like mine?

I have a 3d Printer and would print the decoupling mounting brackets myself if needed or encouraged.

thank you

I always assumed that 3D printing means solid material. If that is correct, how could it be used for decoupling?

The first thing I would try to find out is where exactly the vibrations are coming from. There must be something loose. I have had cases with 5+ drives for more about 25 years and never had vibrations strong enough to make me nervous. So my guess is that something is wrong elsewhere.

There are some very flexible and semi flexible printing materials.
I would do a combination of hard materials for brackets and soft materials for the decoupling.

soo, you telling me those vibrations are not normal. I checked again. The hdds are mounted solid against the case and I cant move them by hand.

I have solved the problem. I removed the feet of my case that made it somewhat wobbly.
I also bolted the case to the wall.

ChrisRJ thanks for the input that something must have been wrong
