Recently I discovered that the memory I had chosen for my build (see details of the build in sig) was being discontinued in favor of higher frequency version of the same.

So I decided that since I had always intended to get more memory at some point, now was that point; for pricing reasons I got the KVR21E15D8/16I which is a subset of the originally installed KVR21E15D8/16 (the only difference being additional testing done by intel).

Upon arrival I installed them (3 new sticks) in the system and booted into memtest; they passed 9 full passes without errors (over 30 hours).

However when I booted into FreeNAS (11.1 U6), the console on the attached monitor was now cutting off the left most 3 columns; as far as I can tell this is the only thing that is not working correctly. Additionally this does not happen when viewing the screen via the bmc.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the cause of this or how worried it should make me?

Would the monitor happen to be connected via VGA? It sounds like the adjustment is just off. Most monitors have an auto adjust button that struggles with console screens but is worth a shot.

It is a vga connection; there is no adjustment setting I have been able to find (I also tried unplugging the cable for a while and plugging it back in).

This is the same monitor I have been using for almost a year now and nothing like this has ever been an issue before.

That's a TV. TVs make bad monitors, especially with VGA as they tend to "overscan". After looking at the manual, I don't see the needed setting documented (its missing a lot). Dig around in the "Picture Settings" and look for picture size. Play with it and you might find something that works better but this is just a side effect of VGA, LCDs, and TVs.

You have IPMI. A monitor is mostly redundant.

True, but it was already right next to it and I have a real aversion to java. ☺

The latest firmware supports an HTML5 iKVM.

Their latest manual mentions it, so I'm surprised that your recent board hasn't received it yet.
