Using motherboard's built in SAS ports

I was looking to get the supermicro H12DSi-N6 motherboard along with an Epyc 7002 series CPU and was going to install TrueNAS Scale on it, but can use the built-in SAS ports on the motherboard? So far I've had independent SAS chipsets or cards that I would flash for IT mode to let TrueNAS have full control over the drives, but my understanding is the 7002 CPUs have the controller built in?

Does TrueNAS work well with this or would it be wiser to get a SAS card that I could flash to IT mode instead?

Usually the SAS or SATA ports on reputable boards work well. And Supermicro certainly falls into the category.

I'm not seeing an SAS controller or ports on the motherboard you listed.

Ah, that it because I had two windows open with two different motherboards and like a dink I copied from the wrong window.

The motherboard with the slimSAS ports was the MZ72-HB0, however the distinction is minor as any board using the 7002/7003 Epyc CPUs will be using a SoC built into CPU itself as I understand it.

So even if I'm just using the SATA ports, is there anything special I need to do to ensure TrueNAS has full control over those drives? or if I'm using the gigabyte board and the slimsas ports does anyone whose used the EPYC cpus know if there are any special steps you should take to make sure TrueNAS has the level of control over the drives it works best with?
