Hi!

I have a FreeNAS system running as a shared storage for my VMWare cluster. I'm using Fibre Channel to connect FreeNAS server to my FC switch, sharing storage for my ESXi servers.
I'm very happy with both performance and how FreeNAS works.

Now I'm working on a project where I want to provide dropbox like storage for some customers. I will build a complete FreeNAS box similar to the one I already have. I will connect it to my FC switch and install NextCloud in a VM in my VMWare cluster.

Now, how is the best way to present the storage for the NextCloud server ?

I want to make sure that I can easily grow storage space for the Nextcloud server in the future should it be needed.

Any recommendations are appreciated...

On my system, Nextcloud runs in a jail and user storage is configured as a separate dataset in FreeNAS shared to the jail via nullfs. You could do something similar by sharing a dataset via NFS to your Nextcloud VM.
