Use rsync to back up to OVH Cloud Archive

Hi all,

I am currently investigating all kinds of options to back up my FreeNAS to some cloud cold storage. I ended up testing OVH Cloud Archive since it seems pretty straight forward in terms of pricing.

However, they currently do not offer rsync via ssh at the moment. Thus a password needs to be entered when connection to the object storage via rsync. I have read quite a bit and tried adding a password file but still, the password needs to be entered.

My question now is: how can I circumvent the password prompt and automate the backup via cron? Another challenge is that my FreeNAS is fairly outdated (for legacy reasons) and I need to find a solution for a 8.3.1 installation.

Do you have any hints on how to achieve that? Do either of you maybe already have experience with backing up to OVH?

Hi,

no unfortunately not. I think maybe `sshpass` could circumvent the issue, but I am not sure if it works using rsync without ssh. However, until now I haven't managed to install sshpass successfully.
