I thought this was a problem with the USB stick and I have changed it out with the same result. To recover I can rebuild the USB boot drive and restore the backed up settings. My RAID array never loses any data. It is just the memory stick that errors out. I am uploading a picture showing the errors. I am using Freenas 9.1.1. Can someone help with this problem?

I can help you.

You need a 4GB or bigger USB stick from a major manufacturer. For example, Corsair, Kingston, Mushkin, etc. Any no-name or off-brands are not likely to work, as are any USB sticks smaller than 2GB.

The first stick I was using was a 4GB OCZ Diesel drive. The drive I replaced it with is a 2GB PNY drive. I have a 4GB Transcend drive.

Ok the Transcend drive is working for now. I noticed it had a higher write speed than the OCZ drive. I will be buying a drive from the ones you mentioned. I will note the write speed of the drive. Thanks for the assist.

The speed of the stick is mostly unimportant, since it's only read on start up.
