My friend has an old UPS (EatonPowerware 9125 2500U, manual:
http://lit.powerware.com/ll_download.asp?file=9125_Users_guide_2500-3000VA.pdf) that he no longer needs and offered it to me.

I see that FreeNAS has a UPS driver for Eaton Powerware 9130.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the 9130 driver will also work for the 9125?

Any other ways of using the 9125 for FreeNAS 9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)?

Thank you.

2017.02.3 Update
The driver is listed as "PowerWare" not "Eaton" in the list of drivers.

Please refer to http://www.networkupstools.org/stable-hcl.html for the stable hardware list..It might be in the powerware section.. Looks like the 9125 powerware is on it.. Try bcmxcp driver and if all else fails try the usbhid-ups..

Yes, I looked at that page and didn't/don't see it.

Eaton UPS Drivers w/ USB Connection

I'm sorry, but I don't understand exactly what you mean by this; which driver(s) are you suggesting that I try and in what order?

I think I found the driver: Powerware ups 5 PW9125 (bcmxcp)

It is in the pick list of UPS drivers that are included in FreeNAS.

I didn't find it at first because I was looking under "Eaton"; I didn't realize that drivers for this line of UPSs are also under "Powerware."

Sorry for being a bother.

Can someone help me with the connectivity of my FreeNAS to my Powerware 9125? Does it use a serial connection? I would have to get a PCI serial card if so. Is there another method? Sorry to bring back an old post.

Yes, that's how I connected mine. (I don't think there are any other ports on this UPS.)

Thanks nello. There was an Ethernet port next to the rs232 on my 9125.

Anyways, I'm using a serial to USB adapter on my FreeNAS box as it has no onboard serial port. FreeNAS recognizes the adapter and shows it on port ugen4.2. I select the 9125 driver, and the 4.2 port, and am getting a connection refused error, and the ups service will not start. You seem to be the only one I can find with a 9125 and FreeNAS. I appreciate your help. Maybe I just need to install a PCI serial card?

What error? Have you tried the manual troubleshooting steps?

Sorry, I'm in a bit over my head probably. I have done lots of reading and searching, but not sure what the troubleshooting steps would be... I've gone through the freenas manual in the ups section, but it's not really that helpful.. seems like it should just work with correct driver and port selected.

I think I will try installing a pci serial port card, hoping my USB to rs232 is just funky. I'll attach a screenshot of my freenas console though...

Many motherboards have a serial port on a header, they just do not include the serial port slot cover and cable.

wblock, yes.. it does but it can't find the header cable anywhere..

I tried a few drifferent drivers, and now I can get the service to start, but now getting:

Freenas upsmon[13365]: poll ups failed - driver not connected

And occasionally I get:

Freenas upsmon[13348]: can't connect to ups: no such file or directory

Wondering now if this old powerware 9125 is just not gonna be supported.

Yes, this is exactly how I got a serial connection between the UPS and FreeNAS.

I tried this and had the same result as you. So that's why I installed a serial port in a slot and connected it to the serial header on my motherboard, which worked.

Mine doesn't have an EtherNet port and I don't see one in the manual (p. 32):

http://lit.powerware.com/ll_download.asp?file=9125_Users_guide_2500-3000VA.pdf

Are you sure you aren't referring to the "Network Transient Protector"?

Perhaps you have one of the other "Optional X-Slot Cards" (p. 46 of the manual)? Apparently the EtherNet port "… - has SNMP and HTTP capabilities as well as monitoring through a Web browser interface; connects to a twisted-pair Ethernet (10/100BaseT) network."

You can contact Eaton PowerWare tech support at these email addresses:
Here's what Software and Connectivity said about the cable:

The serial cable for a 9125 is a 9 pin straight cable – DB9M to DB9F.

These are commonly available, or you can order one through our parts center, 800-843-9433, opt 5.

Our part number is 124102022-003 (6 ft) or 124102022-004 (12 ft).

Nello, thanks again.

Definitely the x slot card. Tried hooking the Ethernet up to my router but the router wouldn't issue it an ip that I could see. I saw somewhere about it having a static possibly set with a default of 192.168.7.1 or something... not working.

Anyways... I connected the USB to serial to my windows machine and tried using a putty serial connection to connect to the powerware as specified in the manual for the x slot card, looks like it connects fine but I get no display... just a cursor.. the manual says to press enter to see the config screen, but nothing happens. So, I'm thinking either my serial tonusb sucks (although I know it works as I use it for other things on my work laptop)... or it just won't talk to the x slot card.

Thanks again for the help. Really wanting to use this ups as it was free to me, and I just spent a little bit on new batteries for it.

Well nevermind, forgot to set the keyboard to VT100 inside putty. I can connect to it and get the config screen through my USB to serial on my windows machine.

HUZZAH!

Finally got it working. I ordered a connect ups x web snmp card from eBay, got it configured and entered its ip address in the port, works perfectly. Never did get around to getting a proper serial port on my windows machine.
