We have two FreeNAS boxes that one of the other techs went to upgrade via the GUI upgrade package. We are now running FreeNAS 9.2.1.3 x64. I don't recall the previous version, but anyway.

Now, I have several CIFS shares that were \\nas-01\directoryA, \\nas-01\directoryB, etc... These were publicly browseable shares. Now, when someone goes to that directory from a Windows machine, it doesn't even show up. We can no longer access \\nas-01 or \\nas-01\<direct path to directories>

I have gone to a CIFS share and remove all the permissions checkboxes, clicked ok to apply and then re-add them, but that still isn't working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm still looking through Google and the forum for help with this issue, but haven't seen anything as of yet.

Have you thoroughly gone through the Windows CIFS doc? The "Browsable to network clients" comes to mind. It could be a number of things though. Verify the dataset permissions are set correctly and ACL type is set to Windows/Mac. You should also verify the Share Permissions and NTFS permissions of the shares by connecting to the FreeNAS box with compmgmt.msc from a Windows box.

I'm checking that doc right now...but would any of that have changed during the upgrade? If so, how come?

I got it figured out finally. On the upgrade, it seems to have deleted the Guest account. So, went to Account --> Users --> Add User and added guest, let it add a primary group, and then told it to not allow logins. Once this was done, I could see everything again.
