Could be a wrong default route. It says 192.168.1.145. Is that right?
Your DNS settings show a nameserver at 192.168.1.254.

As you did not wrote anything about your network setup everything here is a wild guess.

Are you connected with a DSL router? The usual (default) setup would have the router at the
lowest IP in the range, sometimes it is in the highest IP in the range.

As there is a nameserver at 192.168.1.254 try that as default route or try 192.168.1.1.

If they don't work you'll need to provide more information about your network setup.

No the 254 is my rounter and yes I have it connect to a DSL router. And my server is connected to a switch running a vlan and that vlan is connected to the router.i can ping the server with ease but it's still haveing the problem.

Then you should do as I suggested. Use that IP of your router. But know as you mentioned a VLAN involved I can only repeat my comment from above:

It might work or it might not, as long you don't describe the setup of your net nobody will be able to help.

Please check also the forum rules describing what information should be posted. Klick on the big red Link at the top of the page.

I am having the same issue with not being able to connect to the update server. However, I can send a test email and can also ping the update server.

root@VLfreenas2[~]# ping update-master.ixsystems.com
PING update-master.freenas.org (38.126.124.199): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 38.126.124.199: icmp_seq=0 ttl=45 time=173.828 ms

I can also open that address directly in my web browser so it should work.

Well, A good old reminder from the IT crowd "Have you tried to rebbot your PC?" did the job. All good now

Same issue here, but I even can't reach the site from various ISPs here in Germany. Also no ICMP response.

Same exact problem, but different symptoms;
Unable to connect to url https://update-master.ixsystems.com/FreeNAS/trains.txt: Automatic update check failed. Please check system network settings.
If I wget that file in the FreeNAS CLI it pulls down the same page I see on other computers.
So why is the update failing?

Potentially related background; I did change DNS on this network earlier but I have updated the network global DNS info. I also rebooted FreeNAS. The ability for wget this worked before and after the update.

It's the SSL issue, I guess wget doesn't care about that but testing same file with curl will reveal the SSL problem.

Same here
Code:
root@server[~]# curl https://update-master.ixsystems.com/FreeNAS/trains.txt
curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: certificate has expired
More details here: https://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html

curl failed to verify the legitimacy of the server and therefore could not
establish a secure connection to it. To learn more about this situation and
how to fix it, please visit the web page mentioned above.

We're discussing this over at https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/system-update-not-working.95703/post-661986 which includes a trust store fix that does not involve installing a new version of TrueNAS.
