I need to have a program start/run when my FreeNAS 8.04 system starts. In typical linux/unix systems I would use the inittab file. I understand that in BSD I should use the ttys file instead (please let me know if that's not the correct file).

I can edit the ttys file but a reboot overwrites it. How do I make the needed changes so they will be permanent?

Ok, I figured out how to make my changes permanent, but ttys doesn't appear to be the right place. I'm using nc and the script doesn't behave properly when started via ttys.
