Hello,

I have another question for people who use HBA (Host Bus Adapters).

I would like to know if it is true that the Dell H310 or H200 cant use HDD's over 2TB?
I am new to NAS and HBA's and google gives so many answers some say yes and others say no.

Or is there a better HBA non-raid that can be used with larger HDD's or SSD's ?

The system I have is not a server and is just being made into a NAS if that matters.

Thanks
Fred

H200/H310 cards based on the SAS2008 chipset have no issues with drives larger than 2TB - however, I believe they don't support drives with 4Kn (4K Native) sector size, which is probably where the confusion comes in. What specific drives are you looking at purchasing?

The HP H220 and other cards using the SAS2308 chipset do have full 4Kn support, as well as anything newer on SAS3 of course. I'm unsure if the 2208 (eg: PERC H710) does after a reflash, but I believe so. Don't have one myself to test with.

Hello @Pavillion. To answer @HoneyBadger 's question you likely need to give model numbers for the candidate drives.

As well, please take a look at this resource on the topic of SMR drives https://www.truenas.com/community/resources/list-of-known-smr-drives.141/ before ordering any new drives. If you have the drives already, please check them against the tabulation to determine their spec.
SMR drives and TrueNAS don't mix.

Come back here with questions.
