Trouble installing freenas on my machine

hello everyone, i'm new to this OS and to linux in general, and i was trying to install freenas 11.2u2 but it seems that the usb stick gets corrupted each time rufus finishes preparing it, i tried downloading the iso multiple times and checked the checksum.
later i tried to install the 11.1u7 and the bootable usb looked fine but after installing the OS to my machine i keep getting a grub unknown filesystem error and i was wondering if i was doing something wrong, any help is appreciated :)

machine specs:
intel core i7
8gb ram ddr3
500 gb hhd

Do note that FreeNAS uses FreeBSD. What are you interested in using your FreeNAS machine for?

I was planning to use it as personal data storage/media library (things like plex), i own a qnap that just isnt powerful enough to support even a single full hd stream transcode, hence why i wanted to try and see how a machine with freenas did in comparison.
I could post step-by step photos of what i am trying to do if that would be of any help.
