Hi guys,

I have a strange issue when using IPMI. My witch "hangs" sometimes when i use IPMI via the dedicated port on my motherboard. It totally freezes (althought the lights keep blinking). When i don't use it throught the dedicated port (disconnect cable after setting the option to use one of the "regular" NIC's i have no problem at all.
This is not a real big issue i guess, but i would like to know what could be the cause of this issue?

I am using a TP-Link TL-SG3216 16-Port Gigabit L2 managed switch

That's a new one.

Could be a bad IPMI NIC. Have you tried a different port on the switch?

Do you have the 2 NICs bridged somehow? That would create a broadcast storm.

Hi, sorry for the delay, but i suddenly had some time off this weekend and almost totally redid my network (including wiring) last two days. Result is that i am almost finished, but the NAS is now in a room where i only have 1 connection. So until i find time to build room for my nas near the witch, i won't be able to test further. Thanks for the hints though, will look into those.

Note the IPMI data can be sent over the main NICs and the data is fairly small.

Yeah, i know, but I wanted to experiment a little with IPMI and found this issue. Eventually I would connect IPMI to a different, private network, away from my main home network.
