Thanks for the response! So, it does post if I move the jumper to disable. It also posts a single time after moving the jumper back into enable. I guess saying it doesn't post also my be improper. It appears to to through the initialization sequence during the ASCII boot screen with the boot codes cycling at the bottom. It hangs at the next screen when I see the the actual image based supermicro logo. Normally it displays the logo and asks the user to press del for bios, f11 for boot orrder, etc. The first boot after enabling the controller works fine, all subsequent boots hang on the login page and the selection text never pops up. Its just really weird :(

Do you have another power supply to try?

Probably won't make a difference, but worth a shot. I am less hopeful seeing you were using a Seasonic. They are a good supply.

Wow. Thanks for all the tips, seem to have found it. Even though memtest had 5 good passes, and I had no issues powering up with the card disabled, as soon as I went down to a single stick of RAMthings seemed to clear up. Kept testing until I isolated to a single stick of RAM. Not sure how thats even possible that RAM somehow could conflict with SAS controller, but running with 3 sticks now and have successfully booted about 5 times. Crazy. Time to go RMA this very expensive stick of ECC. Thanks again for the help, looking forward to lots of FreeNas :D

I would trie a reflash. I had some issue with the bmc. Setting a pair of jumpers and reflash solved my problem. Supermicro support was wery helpful for me.

Just a small remark - check your jumper on motherboard in order to turn ON SAS controller.

I asked as well (and also expressed the wish that they would post change notices for BIOS and IPMI updates). The reply was:

"BIOS 2.0 is mainly to support Haswell Refresh CPUs."

So far I haven't found anything about new Xeons, so I guess that if a Xeon is working OK with the current BIOS level there's no point in upgrading.

Anyone know which USB controllers are for which ports? There are 4 USB2 ports on the back, an internal header for 2 USB2 ports, an internal header for 2 USB3 ports, and an internal regular USB3 jack. In ESXi's passthrough selection, I'm geting "00:1a.0 | Intel Corporation Lynx Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #2" and "00:1d.0 | Intel Corporation Lynx Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #1". Anyone know which ports are for which?

Just try both of them, you should quickly find out which one works.

Note that USB 3.0 seems to be disabled (USB 3.0 is XHCI, simple USB 2.0 is EHCI) because you only have Enhanced Host Controller Interfaces. They might be operating as USB 2.0 or completely disabled.

When you reach a conclusion, please tell us, since this is a rather popular motherboard around here and hopefully the same data is valid for the other X10s.

Unless you need the updated ME (Management Engine?) firmware, Intel's updated RC (whatever the hell that might be), suffer from point 5 or really want your power button BIOS option to work as it says it works (instead of backwards, I presume), or you will be using a Haswell Refresh processor, no.

If you don't have the experience or knowledge to make that determination for yourself, then you shouldn't be the one making that decision.

2 and 3) If anyone knows what "ME firmware" and "Intel RC" actually are, that would be useful info :)
5) I searched for PBID 52311 and only found this page... anyone know what this TXT test fail issue is?
6) What problems have people been having with the power button?

Completely unrelated note about this board: it took me way too long to figure out that you should connect the CPU fan to header FANA. Supermicro docs were no help.
