And suddenly the RAM-modules are supported again? (KVR16E11K4/32 in my case). I was checking a few hours ago, and X10SL7 wasn't listed as system that works with this system, and now they are. *scratches head*.

I didn't buy an X10 Supermicro motherboard because of that alert. I bought an X9 instead. I hope to be safe :(

Were you searching first for that module and then for compatible systems? I searched again for memory modules compatible with the X10SL7-F, and all I see are two different 4GB "Server Premier" modules and three different 4GB "Value RAM" modules -- no 8GB modules or sets of modules of any size.

Correction: I missed the 8GB (2 x 4GB) HyperX kits. Update: As of 3/23/2014, those HyperX kits are no longer on the list either.

Jup, gone again. Yesterday the X10SL7 was listed (along with many more X10 mobo's) for a brief moment.
Weird stuff (And no it isn't my browser cache).

Can anyone confirm whether or not you can pass through the onboard SATA controller with ESXi 5.5?

I know you can pass through the onboard LSI SAS controller, but i'm wondering about the main onboard SATA controller(s).

If you can, how did you do it? I do not see the onboard SATA controller(s) as pass through options in my ESXi 5.5 at all. I just see 2 USB, 2 LAN, 1 VGA, and the LSI to pass through.

Thanks!

Also, FWIW I have been running 2 8GB Kingston ECC RAM modules in my board with no problems.

Dang, you found the correct answer I'm afraid.
I didn't think to search for the controller name like that but yes, it's a Lynx Point AHCI controller.

Guess i'd need to get an IBM M1015 or something.

Thanks for finding that.

No problem. I hit the same issue in my ML310e G8 v2 from HP. Sucks using 2 controllers, one for ESXi storage raid and one for FreeNAS. Just extra power being wasted :(

I'm using a Noctua tower cooler. 120mm fan. Higly recommended :)

Are you using the slim (NH-U12S) or the regular (NH-U12P) Noctua tower cooler on your X10SL7-F?

Also, the Samsung memory (recommended on Supermicro's website for the X10SL7-F) doesn't seem nearly as popular as a topic of conversation as the Kingston memory, is there a reason why, other than the compatibility issue?

I'm using the NH-U12S. :)

The Samsung is (at least here) about 50% more expensive and not sold by as many as the Kingston modules.
Kingston is widely available, a known brand and has good pricing. I think that is why it has been popular.

Maybe Kingston became complacent and started cutting corners, resulting in substandard products.

Thank you Sir.Robin. Here in the US the Samsungs are actually a little less expensive than the Kingstons.

Has anyone tried installing four of the 1.35v 8 GB Samsungs recommended on Super Micro's site?

1) What is the recommendation for 8 GB memory modules for the Super Micro X10SL7-F? Seems like needle in a hay stack mine field of choices!

2) Which is better, 1.35v or 1.5v 1600 memory modules??

3) What is the difference between the X10SL7-F-O and the X10SL7-F-B motherboards? C1 // C2 ??

I honestly thought that the B meant for Bulk Pack and O for retail pack, I might be wrong and hopefully someone will either confirm or correct me

That would make sense but I'm just guessing.

Hey all, I have a problem that's driving me crazy. I picked up the uATX version of this board (MBD-X10SL7-F-O) and have not been able to do a whole lot. If I disable the SAS controller using the jumper on the mobo, it works fine. I have flashed the most recent bios (12/2013) and the most resent IT mode SAS firmware. However, when I actually enable the 2308 but moving the jumper into the ON position, it only boots a single time. After that, it just hangs at the supermicro boot splash screen. It wont even let me get into the BIOS. SO, right now I have been disabling, rebooting, enabling to do my flashes, then hoping something will change. Any ideas? I was able to install OpenNas with the 2308 disabled, but that really isn't a ton of use. I have 5 x 4TB western digital red drives hooked up the the SAS controller, but this behavior exhibits itself whether the drives are connected or not.

MBD-X10SL7-F-O
4 x 8 GB Samsung M391B1G73BH0-CK0 ECC UDIMMS (on the officially supported list)
5 x 4TB WDC Red drives conencted to LSI 2308 onboard controller flashed in IT mode (16.0.1.0 firmware level)
Generic blueray drive
Transcend USB3 card reader with 16GB MB-SGAGB/AM Samsung SD card for boot media

Thanks, and let me know if you have any suggestions!

If the board won't post then either I'd say your flashing was improper or the board is bad.

Thanks for the response! So, it does post if I move the jumper to disable. It also posts a single time after moving the jumper back into enable. I guess saying it doesn't post also my be improper. It appears to to through the initialization sequence during the ASCII boot screen with the boot codes cycling at the bottom. It hangs at the next screen when I see the the actual image based supermicro logo. Normally it displays the logo and asks the user to press del for bios, f11 for boot orrder, etc. The first boot after enabling the controller works fine, all subsequent boots hang on the login page and the selection text never pops up. Its just really weird :(
