STUPID QUESTION

Hi

Just took the plunge and built my first Freenas server recently and seems to be running fine but none of my drives are showing up in BIOS.
Forgive me if i'm missing something totally obvious but i'm new to all this.
I was hoping someone could give me some steps on things to check?
I'm really hoping this is not a hardware issue.
My setup is as follows:

Case: Fractal Define R4
Motherboard: Supermicro X10SL7-F
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231V3 3.4GHZ LGA1150
Memory: 2x Crucial CT4484988 16GB kit
Power Supply: Seasonic G Series 650W Modular 80Plus Gold Power Supply (SSR-650RM)
Boot Drive: 2x Sandisk Ultra 16GB flash drive
Hard Drives: 8x WD Red 6TB SATA 3
Hard Drives: 2x Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB 2.5" SATA3 SSD (MZ-75E250BW)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

So why do you care? If everything's working, there's nothing to worry about.

Sorry i mean i have no hard drives showing at all in Freenas, shell or BIOS. Basically an empty server at the moment

Well, that's more interesting. What's the FreeNAS version?

Also, we'll need the outputs of the following commands (please use CODE tags for all):

• camcontrol devlist
• sas2flash -listall
• zpool status

Ok, first of all, try replacing every single SATA cable you're using (and make sure they're all shorter than 1m).

Also, flash the SAS2308 to P20 firmware, P15 is way out of date.

Ok will try and get a hold of some SATA cables tomorrow thanks for your help

Just wanted to check whether you mean changing all the cables at once or change one at a time to see if it picks up anything?

Start with 1 but if they are the problem you will replace all of them anyways. Also make sure you plugged in both power and data to those HDDs.

So i finally got the opportunity to have another look at my server after a month of dramas.
I tried replacing one SATA cable didn't seem to make any difference. I have also flashed the SAS2308 to P20 again nothing.
Can anyone suggest any other things i could try? Getting really frustrated here

Time to simplify and test. Plug one drive in and see what happens. Move it to different Sata ports and see what happens. Plug drive with cable into different computer to eliminate drive or cable failure. Lots of simple things to try but keep track of the specifics so we can n narrow it down.
