I picked up a Supermicro X9SCL on eBay, which may become build #3, or may become a 10GbE "switch", depending on how well I like it. I have 8Gb of ECC unbuffered memory I can use for testing, but the only LGA1155 CPU I have is the i3-2120 in the Optiplex 790 that was build #2 for about 6 weeks. Since I mostly do NFS workloads, and very little transcoding, I was actually pretty happy with the i3 proc, so I'm sitting here looking at the option of upgrading the 790 to an i5 or i7, and freeing up the ECC capable i3 for NAS duty. Then I came across an i3-2120T and noticed the 35w TDP. Oddly enough, Intel's "Ark" page for this CPU does not list if it has ECC capability or not, and it's not clear to me it would even work in the X9SCL. Has anyone ever tried running one of these? I'm probably going to pickup a E3-12xx, but I was intrigued by the TDP, and the overall Passmark score is similar to the old 120w Xeon I'm running now.

This system board is almost identical to the X9SCM-F that I used in a previous build:

System Board: Super Micro X9SCM-F Motherboard w/ Heatsink/Fan & I/O Shield - US $75.00
https://www.ebay.com/itm/273350608871

I know it will work with either of these two processors, because I used each at one point or another:

CPU: Intel SR00H Xeon E3-1230 3.20GHZ Socket 1155 - - US $55.09
https://www.ebay.com/itm/273313040616

OR

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230V2 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor Socket 1155 - US $84.99

The X9SCL is a bit cheaper. $54 with shipping. I decided I didn't really need IPMI. Those are the Xeon CPU's I've been eyeing. I figure I can test with the i3, but I'm hoping to bump the memory up to 32Gb, so I have room for a couple network service VM's, and can simplify my desk/lab. That will benefit from the Xeon E3...

This one is actually quite a value because of the included heatsink.
