I was pleasantly surprised after doing a GUI upgrade on my 8.0.1-RC2 Freenas box to -RELEASE and saw a jump in CIFS Performance.

Hardware:

AMD E-350 Sapphire Pure Fusion Motherboard
8GB DDR3-1066
Onboard SATA6G
5 x 2TB Seagate Green 5900rpm Drives

FreeNAS 8.0.1-RC2:

Raw Disk speeds on ZFS RAID5Z are looking good too:

Read Performance:

[root@freenas] ~# dd of=/dev/zero if=/mnt/RAID5Z/dd_test bs=1024k count=2000
2000+0 records in
2000+0 records out
2097152000 bytes transferred in 1.814843 secs (1,155,555,491 bytes/sec)

Write Performance:

[root@freenas] ~# dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/RAID5Z/dd_test bs=1024k count=2000
2000+0 records in
2000+0 records out
2097152000 bytes transferred in 5.848421 secs (358,584,317 bytes/sec)

btw. I do not know if OP has bad intentions or is he truly just congratulating the team, alas

Crystal Disk Mark used to make those performance screenshots is notorious for installing adware, such as opencandy even if you select "no".

Test your filesystems with something else.

Thanks for pointing that out and providing an alternative.
