Setting Up SMB Share from Mac

I must be really new because I can't find a simple guide on how to set-up an SMB share. Since that is kinda the basis of a NAS to begin with, I'm feeling a little dumb. I have tried making a dataset and regardless of how I set it up, I can never log on from a Mac or Windows so something is very wrong. At best case I have received a there aren't any shares available. Worst case it just fails.

Thanks!

The simplest way to set up an SMB share is as follows:

1. Create a user in the TrueNAS webui
2. Create a new dataset and select the SMB preset (don't bother altering the default ACL -- the process of making it an SMB one already sets a sensible one for general purposes)
3. Create an SMB share pointing to the path of the new dataset (leave everything default)
4. in Finder click on Go->Connect To Server and type in smb://<ip of your server>/<share name>
5. Type in your credentials from step 1.

Thanks to you both. That worked. Pretty simple once you know where to look.
