After a clean initial installation (11.0-U1) in my proxmox environment, I cannot configure the services in the web gui (loading does not stop/lasts forever).
The same is true for a clean 11.0-Release installation.

Does anyone have the same issue? Is there a solution?

Thank You
Chris

Did you by chance upload your previous config? If so, that's [likely] what's causing the issue... I'm not sure specifically what setting the config is applying that is causing erratic behavior, but I experienced the exact same thing when I uploaded my config [FN11 Nightlies] to a clean install of a FN 11-Release. I ended up spending an hour or so getting everything set back up, as I was unable to find a fix in the forum.

Sounds not too optimistic. But no, all my efforts are based on clean new installations (only basic setup is done from the console / no former configuration is uploaded).
The only speciality: I installed it as a proxmox vm (8 cpu / 16 gb ram) for trial. When all is fine, I want to use it on hardware...
It's really annoying.

I'd recommend filing a bug report if you're unable to find anything via Forum search, and once done, please post the number and link in the this thread.

U1 was released on 7/1, so its likely you're one of the first to experience this. If you want to trial FN11, try the Release version [6/13], as I know the services tab works on it.
  • There's only a handful of bugs that were fixed for U1, with the changelog below:
    Code:
A new update is available for the FreeNAS-11-STABLE train.
    Version: FreeNAS-11.0-U1

    Changelog:
#23196	Bug	Nice to have	inherited compression level is not always displayed correctly in the WebGUI
#23354	Bug	Nice to have	Can't create a boot environment named "9.10.2-U2"
#23890	Bug	Expected Error when trying to make NIS user owner of dataset
#24235	Bug	Nice to have	Incorrect help text in Services: SMB: Guest account?
#24312	Bug	Critical checking Log rpc.statd(8) and rpc.lockd results in timeout.
#24458	Bug	Expected FreeNAS 11.0 RC4 Unable to setup AD
#24506	Bug	Expected Rework AD code so that when joined to AD, stay joined to AD without need to always join
#24548	Bug	Nice to have	Cannot remove templates of jails
#24563	Bug	Regression Stack trace during replication
#24565	Bug	Nice to have	ZFS boot error=63 "Unable to create ZVOL" after upgrade 9.10->11.0. Cosmetic?
#24570	Bug	Regression [regression] FreeNAS 11 VMware Snapshot Broken with ESXi 6.5.0d
#24572	Bug	Regression Cannot start ProFTPD after upgrade to Freenas 11
#24780	Bug	Blocks Until Resolved	Wizard is giving a Traceback error when it is creating/completing the volumes and shares at the end
#24834	Bug	No priority Death to NT4
#24849	Bug	Critical No more lagg after reboot in 11.0
#24864	Bug	No priority Setting an "IPv4 Default Gateway:" on a DHCP-networked system causes hard freeze or traceback
#24922	Bug	Nice to have	FYI - patch correcting root DNS servers in python/samba/provision/sambadns.py

- I couldn't find anything appropriate in this forum (that's why I created a new thread)
- I have this issue with 11.0 (basic release) and 11.0 with U1, so the release version will not work either
- Sorry stupid question: New and old UI? How can I choose (perhaps this issue disappears when using the new UI)

It's likely due to ProxMox, and I'd still recommend filing a bug report iif it's Type 1 Hypervisor (it appears it's a Type 2), but I do know Release does not have this issue when installed to physical hardware or a Type 1 Hypervisor (such as VMware ESXi - free to non-business users).

As to the UI, you can access the Beta new UI from the login page link "Demo our upcoming UI!", however the old UI should still be utilized as the new UI is still rough, lacks full functionality, and currently, not as efficient as the old UI.

They just said the exact same thing happens in their hardware?

No, @CBrinz stated neither works in ProxMox, which is not a hardware based Type 1 Hypervisor [at least from all appearances via searches on google and ddg, it appears to be a Type 2]

Wow I don't know what I was reading. Yep you're right only virtual.

Yes it is type-2, but it is not para-virtualized. I also never noticed any problems when porting VMs from VSphere to Workstation and back (so from type1 to type 2 and back). So when You all confirm that there is no issue on hardware, I move to it (some physical lab setup to do). I can also send a bug report, because it would be nice to use FreeNAS virtualized before using it phisically... Thank You all so far.

Use the Support button in the web GUI to submit the bug report--that will attach a debug file, with system logs and such, to help the devs track down the problem.

I don't believe FreeNAS works on Type 2 HyperVisors, or at least I've never come across someone running FreeNAS in a Type 2. I could very well be wrong and FreeNAS could very well support Type 2 HyperVisors... I've simply never come across anyone running FreeNAS in a Type 2.
  • You may already know this:
    • Type 2 HyperVisors are essentially a software, not hardware [Type 1], based HyperVisor. Type 2's install on top of an OS and a Type 2 HyperVisor relies on the OS to emulate the hardware, but [generally] does not expose the underlying hardware directly to the VM.
    • Type 1's are an OS, do expose the underlying hardware to the HyperVisor, which can then expose the hardware directly to a VM.

Sure it does--well enough for basic testing, anyway. It works fine under VirtualBox, for example, at least as recently as 9.10 (I haven't had occasion to try 11 under VB, but don't see any reason why it shouldn't). It certainly isn't recommended to run it this way in production, but it works fine for trying out scenarios.

Heureka!
Bloo.. Fu.. Kasperky (even no log entries)!!! Everything is visible, but not the services! Turned off AV/IDP and it works.
Lessons learned:
- FreeNAS 11 is working on Proxmox (of course not for production)
- Always the same old stupid things...
Thank You all for Your helping hands (it supported my own research)

Just installed 11-RELEASE on VirtualBox on a Mac; it boots and runs just fine. All screens load. Again, not something you'd want to use for production, but it works well enough to test things out.

I just hit this issue with 11.0-U2 as well. In my case, the tab won't load in Safari 10.1.2 / Sierra, but it loads fine in Firefox 55.0.3 / Windows 10. Old GUI in both cases. The new GUI won't even load the login screen on Safari.

I'm running 11.0-U2 too. The first time I see the problem I didn't bother but I hit it again and again, at the last time I could get a screenshot of the devtools. The problem comes from back-end failing to reply websocket or something. I couldn't dig more.

I am getting this error with a fresh install of FreeNAS 11.0-U2 running on dedicated hardware, non-virtualized. I have seen in another post that it had something to do with networking... not sure how or why but does anyone have any information on why everything else is working as expected EXCEPT loading the Service tab?
