Server connected to portable router - What do I need to configure?

Due to my rental situation, I'm unable to hook up my server directly to the router. I had to purchase a portable router (switched to bridge mode) so I could have an ethernet plugged in.

Right now I'm running into an issue where I can only access the server's web UI if I'm connected to the portable router's wifi (which is just passing along the real router's internet). The IP of the router, my server, and my desktop is all on the same numbering scheme, i.e., 192.168.50.*** and I'm still able to access the server as long as I'm connected to the portable router, but if I can avoid taxing it I'd like to because it can run hot.

I think what you need is your own wifi router to connect to your landlords wifi and create your own wireless/wired sub-net.
This can easily be done with open source router firmware and an inexpensive consumer router.
