S.M.A.R.T Command Timeout, will it warrant an RMA?

Hello.

I have a Seagate Constellation ES.3 (ST4000NM0033-9ZM170), that have reported a single 188 Command_Timeout.
Would this warrant an RMA, as the drive is still under warranty?

I have 8 of these drives (I got them for free with the latest system), they are running Long S.M.A.R.T tests as we speak, and I will run badblocks on the just to be on the safe side.

I only have two (one each) on two drives. It is not something that should happen often. One every so often is probably nothing to worry about, many of them and it could be a problem. I had some older drives in here last year that were in the range around five years and even on them these numbers were very low.

There is a nice blog post from backblaze that talks about which SMART stats they consider a possible failiure indicator here: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/what-smart-stats-indicate-hard-drive-failures/

They do mention Command Timeout, so it is possibly worth keeping an eye on it.

I had a look at the troubleshooting guide but did not find anything specific about the 188 error. Then I did see that the 188 error were a critical error on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T, so I thought best to ask, just to be sure!

As I said, I got these drives for free with the system, they have just shy of 30k Power_On_Hours. They do have a 5yr warranty, would you feel safe using them in your pool (given that they have no errors during a badblock test)?

Given that they passed a badblock test and there is (in the test results you shared) only one command timeout, I wouldn't hesitate to use them.
Just keep an eye on them, but you should do that with any hard drive. They are out to get you.

I actually have three drives of that model in my pool right now.

The two drives that I have that did get command timeout errors already had those errors when I added them to my pool.
