Build: FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201510290351
HBA: LSI SAS 9206-16e
SuperMicro X9DRI-F, Dual Intel Xeon E5-2687W

The server won't boot and I receive the error message "run_interrupt_driven_hooks: still waiting after XX seconds for xpt_config mps startup mps startup"

If I remove the HBA, freenas boots up just fine.

I have tried all the suggestions I could find.
Adding;
hw.pci.enable_msix=0
hw.pci.enable_msi=0
to the /boot/loader.config

disabling everything non essential including any firewire ports.

I've also tried running ESXi on hardware and passing the HBA to a freenas VM. I get the same results. Side note vmware sees the card and drives just fine.

This sounds like a hardware problem with your LSI. Can you confirm your HBA is in IT mode and flashed with version 20?

Yeah, make sure you're at P20.

Also, try getting rid of the boot ROM if you have it or make sure you have the latest version . Also, try the UEFI version if you're using the legacy BIOS version.

Few comments.. I know I'm late.

1. You shouldn't be adding stuff to loader.config yourself. They probably aren't doing you any good if you are adding them.
2. You should need to add anything to anything in order for the card to work.
3. Those messages are typically a sign of a failed controller, failed PCIe connection (likely ruled out if ESXi is working fine), or a driver/firmware mismatch that is incompatible.
