Is there ANY way of retrieving deleted data? I went into my "Music" folder and for whatever reason, everything has gone. Are there any steps i can take to retrieve this data?

Did you have the recycle bin enabled on the share?

Thanks for the reply! No.... well i have no idea if I'm honest. If its a default option then i probably did.
I've found scripts etc from google searching, but that stuff goes over my head unless theres a guide to follow. It seems that it could be possible to recover the data as i've read that pools with lots of free space makes for easy recovery (i use like 10% of the total capacity). But I'm no expert.

Definitely gonna set up "snapshots" after i get this sorted!

If you don't know if its enabled, why don't you look at the share settings and find out?

I had a look before i replied fella, but i saw no option in the services settings or in the individual share settings. I am using AFP shares if that matters?

It does. AFP doesn't offer the recycle bin. The recycle bin is a Samba(CIFS) feature.

If you don't have snapshots then I'd say your data is probably gone. Since you are using AFP, I assume you use iTunes to manage your music. Could you have deleted your music from itunes(or itunes moved your music) and you weren't expecting it to delete your mp3s?

I find it odd that your Music folder would "just disappear". Accidentally hitting the wrong key does happen. Especially for big folders that aren't an instant delete.

Is it possible that you created a new dataset that is mounted over the Music folder? Aside from accidental deletion, that's usually the culprit when everything disappears.

Oh, that's a possibility! I didn't think of that one. Good thinking fracai!

Bummer! Well Most of it can be recovered from a combination of my iPhone and iPad, but it's still gay.
Is it worth switching to CIFS so that i gain the option of the recycle bin? I've read that AFP is faster and "better" than CIFS.
I've done nothing in iTunes that could have deleted the data. My guess is it was user error, but i don't know what i could have done.

No new datasets mate. I did delete a dataset today though, but that has nothing to do with where my Music was saved to. Folders such as "Movies" and "TV Shows" which are in the same dataset are complete and fine.
