hello everyone,
i've just set up my first "nas" based on freenas. with the main purpose of LAN sharing.
the hardware is simple and old but i don't wanna spend money on it:
mini ITX mainboard with
Atom n230 1,6ghz
2gb ram (maxed out, only one slot)
storage:
3,5" 7200rpm 1000gb
3,5" 7200rpm 160gb
i don't want any "pro" features, no mirroring, no raids, no active folders, no duplication.
i just wanna to have a NETWORK ATTACHED STORAGE + dlna (family's stuff) + remote torrenting (just in case)
i've been running this things with win7 without big problems till now, but the remote usage was obviously not so smooth.
well after this incipit, let's start with the objectives.
-dev0: 1TB HDD for network storage, with dlna option: i've windows and mac pcs at home, and i want to create 2 users with different permissions: My account, with sudo permissions and all the writing and reading permissions, and a GUEST account, with only read permissions.
-dev1: 160gb for "swap", just to store any torrent whenever i need and for the system files and jails, etc.
then here we are with the problems:
i've started freenas configuring the two drives in UFS, calling the dev0 "media" and the the dev1 "data".
i've created 2 accounts "user" and "admin", in the group "home", i've then started CIFS sharing for both drives, and i've changed the local group from "workgroup" to "home" to gain the possibility to access the folders from both mac and win.
then i've tried to configure the two plugins i needed: transmission and minidlna, with no luck.
transmission gave me a lot of different errors regarding permissions (i've searched in the forum for all the solutions, tried with the shell but no luck, the torrent starts but after few minutes i get the access denied error)
so i've cleaned up everything and i've tried with ZFS, setting up the two drives and even datasets (couldn't get them with UFS) thinking that the problem was UFS and permissions, but no luck again.
it's like two days i'm trying with no luck, and these are just the basics stuff! i can't imagine what will be configuring openvpn.
any advice?
thanks in advance and sorry for my not so fluent english.
regards
