I installed FreeNas to a 2GB USB as recomended. The system would not boot from it. So after about the 20th try I removed the 2GB USB and used a 8GB USB key and everything worked fine. My 2GB USB now shows only 8Mb free. Is there any way to remove the FreeNas OS from my USB and restore it to 2GB?

Thanks

Just remove the partition and recreate the partition.

Then you can format it to ca 2 GB

I have tried to remove the partition using windows and various other partition management programs. None of them show anything but a 8Mb partition. And it was definately a 2 GB key when I installed FreeNas. Somehow it is Read only or otherwise protected. ???

You might want to take a look at the section in this link on wiping disks. http://protosd.blogspot.com/2011/12/useful-commands-for-diagnosingmanaging.html

You should only need to use the first command "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ada9 bs=1m count=1" and change the "ada9" to the device name of your disk. If you don't know what the device name for that disk is, that link also explains how you would find that from the command line on FreeNAS.

If you're logged in at your console or have console message enable in the WebGUI and plug in the flash drive, a message should appear telling you the drive has been detected and what the device is.
