Reinstall without config file backup please help

I would suspect that the file in /data is a blank current config. You will want the config file from the system dataset. It most likely is in /mnt/tank/.system as per the above post.
So the command example would be cp /mnt/tank/.system/*.db /mnt/tank/myshare

Are there any .db files in this location (.system)?

ok under /mnt all I have is md_size (don't know what that is) and one love (which is my pool name) under one love I have .windows Marley (the folder name ... I guess you can see a reggae theme here) and jails and jails_2

.windows doesn't seem to be a directory

I suspect your system dataset wasn't on the pool.

Is it the end of the world to simply reconfigure the FreeNAS?

No I suppose not. It might even take less time then this but it would be a hell of a lot easier.
