Dear all-mighty forum,
I was fixing a FreeNAS box with a friend. He insists that the 2 sets of RAMs with different voltage is not a problem and quota "sometimes the OS does not recognise the newly added RAM, hence a reinstall is required". I truly do not buy the story, so would love to hear from you guys.
FreeNAS box which I am talking about has 4 ram slots. currently on two 4gb module with 1.65v. I received 2 more modules from the owner and they run on 1.5v. I did not notice the difference at first and just plugged them in and, of course, the system did not boot.
My questions are:
1) in general, can (I am talking about possibility not recommendation) RAM with different voltage be used at the same time? Will that damage the main board or other modules?
2) can FreeNAS/FreeBSD recognise RAM update? (My answer is yes, but as a networking guy, that does not count)
3) someone tried Corral? especially the VM/docker function? in particular windows VM? works?
Many thanks and cheers,
Vic
