I have a newly built machine with 4 X 1tb SSD drives and 4 X 3tb Spindle drives using a LSI 9210-8i in IT mode. The version is 9.1.0, which I plan on upgrading to the latest afterwards.

When I attempt to create a ZFS Volume, the only options I have are MIRROR STRIPE LOG CACHE SPARE. I am looking for RAIDZ1 and RAIDZ2 options.

The display says 8 drives (4 X 3tb and 4 X 1tb). I get the same options regardless if I am trying with the 4 SSD or 4 spindle. I AM NOT trying to mix them.

It's been a while since I did this. What am I missing?

When you said 9.1.0 did you actually mean 9.1.0 or did you mean 9.10. 9.1.0 is so old I can't even remember if that is a bug in that version or not. That's from like Q3 2013.

If you are on 9.10, what version are you using? I just checked this out on 9.10.2-U3 and it works for me.

If it is 9.1.0, you'll definitely want to update before making major changes, since stuff is likely to break with such a long jump (especially permissions).

In fact, it might be faster and easier to reconfigure the server from scratch on 9.10.2-U4. Otherwise, you'd need to upgrade step-by-step to a ton of versions.

It is 9.1.0

I got a new machine with better power supplies, processors, etc. My plan was to install the same version as my current production box and sync the two. Then make this new box my production box and turn the old one into my backup.

I suppose I could install the latest freenas on this box and just copy the VMs (within vmware) and extents over.

Then wipe my old box and set it up as my backup with the latest version.

Better??

It's certainly faster.

I'm such a meathead...

I didn't realize I had to arrange the drives to show the RAID Zx options. Well, since I am starting with a new system, I'm gonna give 11 a go. Should be interesting.

I am aware.

Not sure if I should use it for production or not. I don't use very much of the features so I'm not all that concerned.

I use it to store my VMs and share via ISCSI. I also use it as my company shared Z drive for all my users via SMB.

I wouldn't recommend using it in production at this time.

I decided not to. Had some errors while trying to update some setting. Factory restore didn't even fix it.

I'm back to 9.10

PS - I also posted a thread in storage. I am thinking I should have posted it in sharing. Can you move the thread for me?
