Hey guys, had put this on the back burner after trying for a few times and gave up, so I figured it was time to ask. As the title states, I believe I'm having issues properly sharing between my FreeNAS server and a CentOS server. I'll try and make it as short and sweet as possible but will of course provide details as needed.

  • FreeNAS running 8.3.1 with one volume
  • Jail setup for software, only running Transmission
  • CentOS server on same subnet running a few services
  • Want to run torrent-specific version of SickBeard as well as Couchpotato
  • Having issues using Transmission method of Sickbeard to snatch torrents. It just does not seem to work properly.
What I see is happening is the following:
  • Torrents are downloaded to path /usr/bt_downloads, which is on the Jail
  • There is a mount point setup between /VOLUME/Torrents/ and /usr/bt_downloads
  • I got to the point where I was able to snatch torrents but it seemed to use the local path on the Jail, so /usr/bt_downloads, but SickBeard/Couchpotato were setup to look for stuff in the /VOLUME/Torrents directory
I essentially gave up at this point and didn't pursue any further. I appreciate any and all feedback.

So where does CentOS come into play?
How are you connecting to each other? CIFS? NFS? SSH? FTP? MAGIC?

CentOS is the distro used on the second server which is running the two aforementioned applications - SickBeard and CouchPotato.

I may have had an epiphany in the shower not too long ago. Like you asked, the CentOS server is connecting to FreeNAS using NFS. The epiphany I had was to maybe make the NFS mount point to the actual directories on the FreeNAS jail; right now the NFS mount points to the directory on FreeNAS, which is then mounting to the jail.

What do you think of this?

Also, thanks for the reply.

it should work just fine mounting to the FreeNAS NFS mount. I am basically doing this exact same thing but without the Transmission jail getting in the way. I have sickbeard, couchpotato, and sabnzbd running on a debian VM, and they are moving files to NFS mount points. I would have a look at your jail config again and make sure its pointing to the right location.
