I have a problem which I am trying to get to the bottom of and hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can resolve it.

Version:
TrueNAS-12.0-U4.1
Fresh install
Create pool with 7 drives raidz2
Add a dataset
Add SMB share for windows

Transfer some files from workstation to NAS @1GB/s read and 600-700 MB/s write

All is good

Then I install a plugin from Supported repos for example NEXTCLOUD.

Choose the same dataset for installation.

Do the same file transfer, speed has now halved.

Uninstall the plugin and delete the dataset.

Delete the Pool

Re create new Pool

Add new dataset

Add SMB share

File transfer and still half the speed I was getting.

Reset all to default.

add new pool
add new dataset
add smb share

now everything back to normal transfer speed.

Add a plugging and then transfer speed halves again.

Rinse repeat and it gives the same results.

The plugin and jail creation must be changing something?

Any ideas?

My dashboard is showing the memory only utilising half around 18GB.

Normally its pegged at 38.5GB

So its like Truenas isn't using all the available memory.

Solved. had to reboot the NAS after jail removal. I don't reboot ever as its a Dell server and takes forever to post and boot.

Problem not solved. The creation of a Jail and installing a supported plugin seems to halve my file transfer speed and also stop the RAM been utilised for cache. Could someone tell me if the Jail allocates memory so that ZFS can use it for file transfer?
Is there a setting I need to change?

I think it could be a CPU problem as its pegging the 1st thread at 97% now Nextcloud is installed when running a transfer.
40GB ram and Xeon E5-2430L V2

Nope this is random, defo causing the write and read speeds to halve when I install a plug-in on the dataset.
If I delete the plug-in and reboot the problem goes away. This must be a settings issue that is changing something on the dataset after installing a plug-in. Can anyone help me out as this is seriously doing my head in now.
