Pools OFFLINE after migrating from TrueNAS Core to TrueNAS Scale

Hello out there,

today I decided to migrate from TrueNAS Core to TrueNAS Scale.
I followed the descriptions using an USB-Stick with the actual .iso File.

The process completed smoothly and TrueNAS Scale bootet afterwards.
Users, Groups and other former settings are present.

Now the real big problem I have got now is, that both pools I had before are marked as OFFLINE and I could not find any method to get them ONLINE again.

Any hint for me what to do now?

Hm. I don't want to make a recommendation because it's potentially unsafe to the data. Hopefully, someone else with more confidence in this area will chime in...

Could you thoroughly describe the hardware?

Which versions of CORE and SCALE?

I assume you have tried to reboot.

Yes, I tried reboot several times - no success.

My hardware:

ASRock Motherboard Z370M-ITX/ac with Intel Core (TM) i3-8100 CPU @ 3.6 GHz
16GB RAM
Boot Pool is 2 x Sun Disk Flash Drive 64GB
Pool1 3 HDD 1,48TB
Pool2 3 HDD 4,63TB
I tried to upgrade from TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1 to TrueNAS Scale 22.02.2.1

The installation went smoothly and TrueNAS Scale bootet afterwards.
All System settings like Network, Users, Groups and other former settings are present.
So looked good - however my two pools (Vol1 and Vol2) were marked 'OFFLINE' and I could not figure out, how to activate them.

I was in panic, as I could not access my data any longer - so I went back by selecting the former boot (TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1) and after reboot I had my functional 'old' TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1 running without any problem.

I desperately would like to change to TrueNAS Scale in order to run Docker Containers and appreciate any procedure how to get converted to TrueNAS Sale having access to my current pools.

Did you try to export the pools before you did the upgrade? Then import them after upgrade?

To be honest: NO, as I was afraid that I'm messing up my data. I really do not understand what 'Export/Disconnect' is doing with my data.

Can you try making a "zpool status -v" on core? Just to show how the pools are setup? My though is it might be using disk IDs instead of guids

No problem - The output is:
root@truenas:~ # zpool status -v
pool: VOL2
state: ONLINE
status: Some supported features are not enabled on the pool. The pool can
still be used, but some features are unavailable.
action: Enable all features using 'zpool upgrade'. Once this is done,
the pool may no longer be accessible by software that does not support
the features. See zpool-features(5) for details.

There's your problem - the disks are legacy encrypted which is a CORE only feature

Thanks a lot for spotting that - I guess you are referring to the GELI - Stuff?
Can I change this to actual encryption?

On-the-fly? Not "really".

Safest method is to replicate (i.e, send/recv) to a newly created pool, with native encryption on the new pool's root dataset, in which the received child datasets will inherit encryption.
