I'm slowly working out then kinks in may system. Ever Since I installed FreeNAS-11.3. and added ACL permissions. Each time I add a file(s) into my plex library I have had to use the shell in the jail and update permissions for those file(s) in my Plex Directory. What sort of permissions do I need to set/allow so I don't have to chmod -R anymore?

Frenass OS FreeNAS-11.3-U3.2

Using MacBook with MacOS 10.15.7 for all the Moving and editing Permissions

The issue is your files are owned by root which plex cant read. Your most likely option is to simply create a user on Truenas with user id UID and GID of 972 and allow that user to either A) fully own that pool or B) have access to it using ACL or C) Have plex group own it.

Sorry for the late response but did you mean own the Dataset instead of the whole pool?

Yes, ONLY the media in question

Make this user named plex with uid/gid of 972 and allow this user to own only your media dataset.

Via ACL permissions allow the user plex and or group plex to own the media dataset. From the look it this is likely /mnt/Candace/Media_Volume

I don't see anywhere where Plex owns the dataset or has access via ACL. What you did was create user Plex a home directory in the media dataset. I'll usually make this /nonexistent (fix by edit user). Add an acl entry for the user and group plex identical to how you have it set for the user mlibrary/Media-Library-grp.

So update I still have tow plex Directories and I have nothing showing up in any subfolders and I cannot create or copy into those subfolders. I went back to check the ACL's and they have been stripped Is it cause I have two users trying to be owners of the same dataset?

@koli Thanks for the video, but I still gotta figure out why I have two plex directories, I went and deleted the plex user and the group and I made the Media user the owner of the ACL I got somewhat of my library back but I still have two plex Directories and now my Library won't reflect what's in the directory, I can copy a file into the directory and then I manually update the directory and I can see it in the freenas plex directory, when I go and scan plex for new media nothing shows up...

@csearle does your FreeNAS jails page show two plex jails? Or do you mean your SMB share shows two plex directories?

Oh, your SirNAS has boot drive of ScanDisk, I think you meant Sandisk.

@Heffy my SMB Share, My mount points only have one.. I think you may be right on Sandisk thank you for that..

The second SMB share is what har transpired After deleting the plex user and trying to put things back to normal...

Stop your plex jail and edit the mount points. I believe the source mount point for your system should be /mnt/Candace/Media_Volume in other words delete the /Plex and I believe that should clear things up.

@koli I watched the video you shared and I did notice something that I did wrong. I watched this https://youtu.be/rvD5mjSWw1Y video to set up my plex and where I went wrong was setting the destination folder I should have left it to: /mnt/Candace/iocage/jails/Plex/root/media where I have it set to :/mnt/Candace/iocage/jails/Plex/root/Plex Media Server/SirNas I tried to revert back to /mnt/Candace/iocage/jails/Plex/root/media but my plex failed and had to use what I put in

Finally fixed my issue I followed the video that @koli dropped. Then I had to repoint all the directories in plex to /Media, I tested by coping a file over and it worked

Well it seems that its not all fine and dandy.. Last night I went to create a folder, went to move items into that folder. Moved over to Plex to Scan library files and blam nothing showed up for new content I had to shell threw the Jail and find my Media files. I found that group was set to Wheel, so I changed the group to plex for all the directories. I also had to manually chomd permissions, cause there wasn't any. Then I was able to update my libraries.

This morning I went a created a new directory, and found that the owner was plex, however permissions weren't set properly I still had none..
I found this online was wondering if these command would work. TO change the ownership to plex

chgrp <containing-folder>
chmod g+ws <containing-folder>
