Broken? That really sucks but that connects to the board management hardware so I too am curious if that is possible but I'm very sckeptical.

Did it just suddenly break? I'm sure you have tried new Ethernet cables and such? Can you explain the failure indications? Maybe you are not getting an IP address or the wrong IP address? That stuff should be in the BIOS. Did you recently upgrade the BMC?

Good luck my friend, you may be running your system without IPMI.

this happened about 2 years ago my psu failed and i think it damaged the ipmi. everything else works. when i tried to boot with the failed ipmi it took a very long time to boot. i removed the jumper that enabled the ipmi and now boots fine (apart from the board beeping 5 or 6 times to tell me the ipmi is disabled)

it was a long shot that i could get a replacement

While it's a risk, have you tried to reprogram the BMC? I'm not even sure it's possible on your board if IPMI is disabled. Also, reprogramming the BIOS may help, even if it's the same version. Again, reprogramming a motherboard always has some risk. That is all I can think of right now.

i did try flashing the bmc but it didn't work.
i don't use ipmi very often as you can see i've waited 2 years to ask. i only really needed it very occasionally when i had replaced a disc and the boot order got messed up - i had to disconnect a monitor from my pc and connect it to the server so i could get to the bios

Unfortunately I think you are going to continue to run your machine without IPMI. I will admit that having IPMI is nice but I too have a monitor and keyboard in my basement for when it just makes more sense to be directly connected, plus not all my machines have IPMI. I can't think of anything else to do off the top of my head, maybe someone else will have an idea other than buying a new motherboard. If you were good at micro miniature electronics repair you might look for a surface mount fuse but you need to have the skills and tools to do that kind of work. My eyes are not young but I use to do that kind of work several years ago. It's very rewarding when you can bring something back to life.
