Hello,

I have just purchased a micro-ATX case (Jonsbo V4 black) which will be fitted with two Noctua NF-A8 PWM fans (there is room for a third one if required). To cool down an Intel Xeon E3-1220 v6 CPU I intend to use the 1U passive heatsink from Supermicro (SNK-P0046P). The NAS will be used as a file server and, occasionaly, streaming audio and 4K video to one player only.

Based on your experience, will the passive heatsink be enough, or shall I look for a "heatsink & fan style" CPU cooler?

No, this won't work well. The 1U passive heatsinks rely on a wind tunnel for the CPU, with banks of 60mm screaming fans to have sufficient airflow to cool the CPU. If you're concerned with noise, you'd do better to go with an AIO water cooler.
