Zfs replications would probably be the best solution. Create new pool with new drive and replicate the data over then change your jail path in the GUI.

Hey SweetAndLow, I really appreciate your response, I have created another Volume for it to transfer to as you can tell by my capture, I was looking at the Replication task and it is for sending a dataset to a remote host, can this accomplish what I need locally?

'localhost' is a valid "remote host"

Hey pirateghost, thanks for the quick response, i have to set up a periodic snapshot task correct? would that require me to have it previously set up, because i do not have any snap shots set up for my jail?

Based on what you see here, are the settings correct?

uh....is the new disk actually mounted on /JamesJail1?

You do understand the concept of mount points right?

pirateghost, thanks for your responce, i had it like that because while i was making it, its says to not make it mount point, but zfs volume and dataset. is this not right?
and yes, the new drive is mounted as /JamesJail1

I dont understand what you have right now. Based on what you have stated, it sounds like you tried replicating to your boot.

what exactly do your volumes look like?

what mount points do you have?

i actually attached a capture of my storage on the very first post, my set up is freenas on a usb, with 4x3tb in raidz, a 120gb ssd for my jail, and a replacement 500gb ssd for my jail, storage is labeled as JamesVolume, Jails are labeled as JamesJail, and the new jail drive is JamesJail1

just as an FYI, you don't need a new storage point for your jail. I am finally on a computer and could see your storage screenshot.

you can create a zfs dataset on your storage (something like plexLibrary), and add a storage mount to your jail to it, move all your library over to it, and then mount it as the library. I don't store my library within the jail, I leave it in a dataset and mount the storage point.

also, since this is a one time thing, you might look at zfs send instead

Pirateghost, im sorry, thanks for your patience, when i went in to edit it, it was gone, i deleted the replication task and re-made it, now im getting a permission denied, i checked permissions on the drives and they are set to nobody, the dedicated user is also not checked, so it should be running as root, am i forgetting/not aware of something? i have a dedicated drive for the jails b/c when i was reading the noob guide by cyberjock he said that the best configuration would be to have a dedicated jail drive.

you can keep the jail on the separate drive and just store the data from plex on a dataset....you are wasting SSD for nothing.

as for your permissions issues, I have no idea what your configuration is. I have never had an issue like this with my 4 FreeNAS boxes...
