Hopefully it evolves into something much better but at the moment its little more then a hacked together mess.

Corral itself wasn't perfect and there were some short sighted choices but it did for the most part get what was wanted by the users and buyers.
FreeNAS 11 is looking more like something made for the programmers with a little lipstick slapped on it to appease the people using it.

There talk of having jails and dockers...jails may be stable and have low overhead but they have been dead for ages with no development or wide spread use compared to dockers.
Keeping something around that has not changed or evolved that's duplicated by dockers is a utterly pointless not to mention a waste of resources.

The new UI is frankly a half baked mess.
It does finally get the controls in one area rather then the old unintuitive mess that was 9.3/9.10 but that's about it.
There are some better graphics for the old info but nothing that's been needed or wanted for ages now. ( no customization )
Hell you can't even check the temperature of your hardware which is something that should have been there ages ago and something corral actually understood.
Some would say that people can manually check the hardware or have other methods for doing so but this is not what users and buyers want.
They want to log in and within a couple of clicks have all the info they need or want presented to them on the dashboard so they can fix problems or make choices.
The average person hasn't got a lot of free time and the people doing this is business have even less so they don't want a system that lacks basic info and forces them to have to get it from other sources.

This feels a lot like whats been the problem with 9.3 and 9.10.

Something made more for the programmers themselves in mind rather then users or buyers.
You can't keep parts just because they are stable or easy to do if there no one actually developing or using them.
You can't slap a little lipstick on a old UI to make it look a little more modern without really providing anything new.

Take from corral whats good as you keep the stable core of the 9.10 development.

As of now people and companies are worried with the sudden drop of Corral and as things are their not impressed.
There is of course development under the hood but some of the announced choices are wtf and sound more like its what the programmers want then any common sense.

jhk wasn't always right and was sometimes totally blind to things like we all can be but he understood that things must evolve.
Just because something stable isn't good enough if no one using it..you replace it with whats actually used widely.
This will of course cause some pain in the beginning but that's a small price to pay .

This play it safe approach and try to please everyone doesn't work.

Now things are still early and it could change into something better but the feedback coming from the programmers indicates this is unlikely.

You do realize that it's not done yet right?

Was there something constructive you'd like to add or did you just come here to complain?
