Network sharing?

So i'm currently starting off a small youtube channel and i have a freenas server. However im confused on how i would make it so that my editors can access the server from their own homes. Is this even possible? please let me know!

setup a vpn, use a sync software like owncloud/nextcloud. Those are two options off the top of my head. What you don't do is put your freenas system on the open internet and let anyone access the shares.
