SOLVED Network Error 0x8007003B - Problems transferring files to FreeNAS

When ever I try to transfer a file from my PC to my FreeNAS box, I'll get this error. Usually with one or two retry's the transfer will work but on bigger files I can't finish the transfer at all.

I've done a full work days worth of googling this error and haven't found anything that has worked for me.

Changing Max SMB Protocol
Changing MTU size
Disabling Windows Search Service
New Installation of FreeNAS

While I appreciate your attempt, this is only a tiny sliver of the information that is needed about your hardware. I really am not trying to be difficult, but we do need the information about the hardware you are trying to run FreeNAS on, as is explained here:

Particularly:

• motherboard make and model
• CPU make and model
• RAM quantity
• hard drives, quantity, model numbers, and RAID configuration
• hard disk controllers
• network cards

It might even be helpful to know about your computer.

Have you tried anything from this thread? This sounds like a Windows issue.

I did try that as well, but after re-installing a fresh FreeNAS I left the monitor connected and noticed I was getting these errors

Code:

re0 watchdog timeout

and then this morning I got a kernel log with this

...and after some searching it seems this is directly related to my issue. Turns out I have a crappy Realtek embedded NIC. I'm not entirely sure why it decided to start giving me trouble out of nowhere but all my research says I need an Intel NIC which will be delivered tomorrow. I will report results once it arrives.

Intel NIC arrived and viola all my problems are solved. My speeds are awesome finally actually getting gigabit transfer speeds between my PC and NAS.

You might want to review the hardware guide that was developed to help with selecting good hardware. That way you can pick a better system next time. Also, don't be afraid to ask for advice. Between the regulars here, it is probably over a hundred years of combined experience. Not to say anyone is getting old...

Really? This thing runs great as my Minecraft Server, File Server, and I watch movie's off it from Kodi on a Fire Box (not the stick) in the living room.

I get the "preferred" hardware is of the higher grade but I've hit all the criteria for my needs.

Small FreeNAS for a Few Users

• Multicore 64-bit processor
• 8 GB or larger boot drive
• 8 GB RAM
• One Ethernet network port
• At least one hard disk for storage
