So I am at work today and my cronjob sent me this wonderful message:

The volume RAID (ZFS) state is DEGRADED. One or more devices has been removed by the administrator. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in degraded state.

Now I set up my freenas a while back. I get home to check it out and I can't access the web interface. I can't telnet/ssh into it either. I can ping the box and I do have access to my shares. I am getting a beep and a click from the hard ware.

I started out with Segate 3TB baracuddas. I have since replaced two of them due to failure with WD Reds using the UI.

So I have access to my shares, can ping the box, but there is no web interface for me to go to and I can't ssh/telnet into the box...what are my options here? I am scared to restart the box because I don't want to lose my data. I have about 4 tb worth on this box.

I have to no way to check what is going on.

HP ProLiant MicroServer
4x mix of Barracuda and WD Red
8 GB RAM
I believe my Freenas version is FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201501162230. I don't think I have upgraded past this.

Any help will be appreciated! Should I try and copy my data to another HDD? Maybe a 5tb external which I would have to buy? Restart the box?

You can plug in a monitor and keyboard and access the shell locally.

It would be prudent to buy as much external storage as you need to backup the data you care about, just in case.

Please post the usual info to give folks the best chance of helping you.

You have two (2) issues, please start with a new FreeNAS instance, and then replace the failed drive or proceed with backups. Probably backups first, since you did not indicate that you have a replacement drive handy.

One piece of info that may affect what you do is what type of vdev it is, striped mirror, RAIDZ1 or RAIDZ2. And how full it is.
