Need help deciding

Greetings and salutations fellow freenas'ers ;). I am currently running version 0.7.1 Shere (revision 5127), amd64-embedded on AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ and I am considering installing v8.0.1 RC1.

But, I am not sure I need it. Is there any benefit for me to upgrade in reality? I am using my freenas for sharing out two 1TB disks where I keep all my data. I have also played around and used uPnP server on it, and also BitTorrent, but mainly just filesharing accessible to my computers and my playonHD set-top box.

Please advice :D

To be honest you are fine where you are. For what you are doing FreeNAS 8 gives you nothing more over FreeNAS .7. It actually gives you less right now because there is no UPnP nor BitTorrent.

The hardware requirements are higher with version 8 as well. I would recommend you stick with what you currently have. If you ever feel like upgrading in about 6 months or so, check back to see where this project is at.
