Today my system halted because it appears to have run out of memory... (subsequent searching through the forums here have shown me that I should be running the AMD64 version of software instead of the I386 that I am). When I attempted to restart the system the following gets displayed on my terminal:

Code:
F1 FreeBSD
F2 FreeBSD
F5 Drive 1

F6 PXE
Boot: F1
error 32 lba 543951
No /boot/loader

FreeBSD/x86 Boot
Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernel/kernel
boot:
error 32 lba 543951
No /boot/kernel/kernel

FreeBSD/x86 Boot
Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernel/kernel
boot:

The system has been running for almost 4 months now (aside from 2 prior restarts when the system "ran out" of memory), what happened?

Am I correct in assuming that FreeBSD now believes that my 16GB USB stick is only 512M in size?

What I need to know is what steps do I take to resolve this? NAS is a critical element of our manufacturing system.

Yes, I do have a configuration backup.
The software I'm using is FreeNAS 8.0-Release-I386

Any help is appreciated.

  • Completely wipe your flash drive making sure there are no left over partitions.
  • Reflash it with the correct version of FreeNAS (amd64)
  • Boot it up, restore your settings, let it reboot, you should be back in business.

Edit: It probably wouldn't hurt to upgrade to version 8.02, lots of fixes..... (get 8.0 working first, then do the upgrade from CD after)
