Hi all,
I am building a Nas please could you show me how I can assess files on this Nas after building it and it is in use.. And also what sort of software and server motherboard will be best for a Nas project..i am fresh in IT.. I have read more but I need some few ideas..your advice will be appreciated..

Hi Dan I mean assessing file when I am not at home..i want to be able to assess video and other files whiles I am outside my house.. Since this NAS is going to be based in my house.. Is there a way I could do this..

There are many answers. It depends on your security needs, amount of files and Gigabytes, your budget, how many users need access, whether being not home means long trips or just everyday commuting...

ways may involve
- version A - VPN server
- version B - dedicated banana/raspberry pi server in a DMZ
- simple: ownCloud or nextCloud (there are some security advancing how-tos in our forums)
- crazy one: carry one of your FreeNAS servers with you ;)
- simple and secure: synchronize your FreeNAS files to could (MS OneDrive for example. Just a wild example cos I can't recall if this service is supported by FreeNAS)
