Hi all,

I have 4 hdd's in a freenas setup and I would like to transfer them to my pc.

Usually I would connect the freenas and would go to network option on my pc and would choose freenas and I would be able to copy the files from the hdd's. The problem is that it asks for password and I have no idea what it is, as before he never asked me for it.

When I'm trying to connect the hdd's directly to my pc they don't actually work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Log into the freenas system as root and change passwords for the account you are trying to connect with. One of the recent free/TrueNAS updates no longer allows you to use root account to connect to samba shares.

Oh I am quite confident they do work, but you need an operating system capable to import a ZFS pool.

Which version are you running? As @elvisimprsntr wrote SMB access with root user has been disabled in never versions, so we need to know which version you're running.
If you're on a version with root disabled you have to create a new user and give that user access to the datasets.

have you tried using an ftp client? Activate the ftp service in TrueNAS and login as root/pw through the ftp client. Works really well and very fast. I use WinSCP.
