Hi,
I searching for an application to monitor a FreeNAS system. I am looking for a small widget-like app for Windows with crucial information or an add-on for chrome maybe some reporting.

Why? What do you need to monitor on a constant basis?

I was thinking about:

- alerts
- CPU temp, CPU used, RAM used
- VM or plugins status

Maybe capacity thresholds on a volume or dataset.

Reporting is a separate issue but a monthly capacity used report would be nice.

It's possible he has it in a business environment and management insist they require monitoring on all systems of importance.

I have the regular web interface up in a browser on my monitoring station open to the CPU utilization screen like this:

Tells me all I need to know in a glance. It should be fairly easy to cobble together some custom monitoring utility using the metrics from NetData:

Also, FreeNAS has the ability to export its collectd data to a remote Graphite server: http://doc.freenas.org/11/system.html#advanced

There are several projects out there, mostly based on Graphana, that make pretty dashboards with that data.
Do a search for "FreeNAS Graphite Graphana".

This setup will not notify me is the system fails completely or lost connectivity, hence the need for a separate application.

By the way, this looks great I missed that.

Do a search for "FreeNAS Graphite Graphana".
This looks promising I will read up on it. Thanks.

Now I am using e-mail notification from FreeNas and getting alerts from a backup server if a replication task fails. The FreeNas system in question is used as an off-site DR replication destination.

SNMP and IPMI (depending on your server board) data are a good way to port over to your existing diagnostic platform(s)?

I use these in our business environment.
