Hi all,
I just want to make sure I do my backups right and avoid any future issues.
the situation is this one: My motherboard has 6 sata ports, one of them is not working anymore. I replaced the mobo already with a similar one -> same issue and it seems the entire series of mobo's have this issue. Once I replaced the old mobo with a new one from the same model everything worked perfectly (FreeNAS booted like nothing was changed ) The only option I have is to replace the mobo with a different model from a different manufacturer. I assume freeNAS will not boot anymore because there are other drivers and setups.
I have 3 pools
- freenas_boot - 2x USB in raid
- jails - M2 Sata
- Storage_zpool - 6x SATA disks

Can I avoid reinstalling Freenas?

Thank you

Bad assumption. This isn't Windows, after all.

thx for the replies guys.
Please don't feel that we are being harsh. We would be happy to answer any of your questions. This question comes up pretty often, for a variety of reasons.
We have advice on what hardware would be good to use if you are interested:

There are many things in the resources section that are helpful, for example, this one on using SAS controllers to run your disks:
