So I'm fairly new to FreeNAS, but have done enough things that I feel like I have the (very) basic concepts of how things work behind the scenes.
I plan to replace my motherboard/CPU setup (currently Avoton, moving to a Xeon and requisite MOBO).
I currently use the 6 Intel SATA slots for my NAS, boot off mirrored USB drives, and plan to continue doing so with the new gear (all AsRock stuff). I have 2 questions. #1 - Can I simply expect to replace the CPU/MOBO, plug everything back in as before, and see my previous configuration come back to life? #2 - Using my current RAIDZ2 setup, do I need to make sure the HDDs are connected to the same SATA ports on the new motherboard, or will FreeNAS sort it out?

I don't worry so much about the data - I have multiple good backups - but I've worked hard setting up a couple of plugins/jails and working out all the kinks. MySQL is not something I look forward to battling again!

You'll be fine. The system will figure out the drive to port mapping (see my recent gptid post) and you might need to reconfigure the network but that should be about it.
