I set up MiniDLNA with the help of instructions on this forum (which I am unable to locate at this moment...)
The guide did not involve any plugin, just how to create a jail where MiniDLNA was installed and configured.

I followed the instructions and was surprised how easy it was to get working....

Initially the FreeNAS MiniDLNA server showed up and my TV and I could watch films which were stored on my FreeNAS box. However I no longer have access to the service anywhere on my network. I have checked that MiniDLNA is still running on the FreeNAS box but nothing can see it.

Any suggestions as to where to look to see what might be causing problems?

Anything related in /var/log/messages on either the FreeNAS system or the jail itself?

I couldn't figure out where to look, being new to all this stuff - MiniDLNA was the first jail I had set up... However I did manage to get it working so tried to recover what I had without re-installing MiniDLNA. But eventually I gave up and re-installed and now it works just like it did initially.

I'm still not sure what to monitor under MiniDLNA, but as long as it keeps working I won't spend too much time on it.

OK here's a thought.

There's a "problem" that can occur. If your router reboots while your FreeNAS is on, it is VERY possible that the route to the FreeNAS jails will be lost. You will still be able to reach the main FreeNAS appliance IP, but you may find there is no route to the jail IPs. The reason this occurs is not worth the explanation right now, but trust me on this.

The way that you fix it, is you manually turn the affected jail(s) off, and then back on, in the GUI. This will re-capitate those IPs to the switch.

Trust me.
