Running 9.10 smoothly but I have 1 pool that has been degraded for awhile that will be removed.

4 X 4T WD RED - (Pool #1) Perfect
2 X 2T - (Pool #2) Degraded - WILL REMOVE and push data to Pool #1

As a newbie and the help of forums I have cron scrubs jobs, PLEX/PLEXPY, etc. running. This is a simple home FREENAS system for the typical home media etc.

Its time to add 2 more 4T REDS and I know I have to rebuild the pools but is there a set way to do it smoothly or is it simply:

1) Offload the data from pool to external(s)
2) Delete pool
3) Add new drives
4) Create new pool/datasets etc.
5) Load data back on from external(s)

I have done this a few times in the beginning trying to make up my mind with different HD configs but wondering if there is a more efficient way .

Thank you for your time.

Assuming what you're wanting to do is add the new 4TB drives to the existing 4TB drives to create a single large pool, then yes, what you've described is the way to do it.

The only other suggestions would be if you have access to another ZFS based storage system, in which case you could use ZFS replication to move the data, but otherwise you're still looking at the same process: backup the data, delete the old pool, add new hard drives, create new pool, restore data.
